Study on card payment in Romania

RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - The number of requests to install POS and software for accepting card payments has increased in Romania seven times, this month, compared to the same period in 2022. According to a specialized study, last year, Romanians made card payments worth over six billion lei.

Reporter: Amalia Bojescu - "Romanians made over 53 million electronic transactions last year. According to a specialized research, almost 95% of all transactions are contactless and are made at grocery stores and supermarkets, at hotels, restaurants and fast food joints, in auto parts stores or at dental practices. The centralized data also shows that, this month, the POS installation requests came from small companies, the rest from medium ones. The majority is represented by food or convenience stores, auto parts stores and services, restaurants, bars or cafes. From a regional point of view, most requests for electronic payment terminals come from the counties of Ilfov, Prahova, Dambovita, Galati and Bistrita-Nasaud. The number of customers in Romania who have terminals accepting card payments or applications that turn their phone or tablet into mobile POS has increased, exceeding 14.000 merchants."
