NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, underscored Romania’s valued contributions to NATO in a meeting with Prime Minister Ludovic Orban at NATO Headquarters on Thursday.

He highlighted Romanian deployments to NATO-led missions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Kosovo and to a multinational battlegroup in Poland, as well as Romania’s hosting of NATO’s ballistic missile site in Deveselu, its essential contributions to Black Sea security, and its commitment to spend 2 percent of GDP on defense this year.

Mr.Stoltenberg and Mr. Orban also discussed the current situation in the Middle East. The Secretary General reiterated that peace and stability in the Middle East is important for all NATO Allies, and that Allies continue to consult closely in this regard. “NATO has the potential to contribute more to regional stability and the fight against international terrorism and we are looking into what more we can do”, he said.
