As for the Service he manages, George Maior asserted that 2010 was the year of operational performance.

He added that in 2010 they recorded the best results ever had in the last decade and focused not only on the fight against tax evasion, smuggling and the identification of radical groups that enforce terrorism but also on counterintelligence activities.

Moreover, he said that all the aforementioned activities had been brought into practice under budgetary constraints and in close cooperation with public institutions.

Furthermore, Director George Maior claimed that, in 2011, the Romanian Intelligence service would focus more on activities related to preventing terrorism, taking into account that the looseness of both the Middle East and the Northern Africa could influence our national security.

Adaptation to the computer era, this is the main purpose of the Romanian Intelligence Service.

On Wednesday, after the review meeting at the Romanian Intelligence Service, President Traian Băsescu declared that 2010 was the year of the best accomplishments ever achieved and emphasized that preparing new IT strategies would be an important pillar which would help us keep up with reality.

‘2010 was a year in which the Romanian Intelligence Service achieved the best, at least since I have known its accomplishments’, said Traian Băsescu.

As for the changes that the Service must go through, the President outlined that what one should keep in mind was the fact that the improvement and the restructuring of the Service was a process that would put an end to modernization and that the Romanian Service Intelligence must acquire the required quality of keeping up with reality.

‘As well as other modern structures that accomplished the required changes and the restructuring process, the Romanian Intelligence Service must acquire that quality of keeping up with reality and as a consequence preparing a new strategy in order to adjust the Romanian Intelligence Service to the computer era is a very important goal that will allow it to suit for reality and for the needs of the Romanians’, Traian Băsescu asserted.

The President added that adapting to computers’ era should not involve the negligence of the ability of the Romanian Intelligence Service useful for acquiring information from people. Moreover, he emphasized that modern systems must be associated with and support information acquirement from people.

Among priorities, the President specified that there was also important to note Government’s failures not only locally but also inside the headquarters. It is also important to note how much the Romanian Intelligence Service gets involved in locally dissipating the crime organised groups and in ensuring food, nuclear and health system security.
