Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union has reached a provisional political agreement with the European Parliament, in the digital sector, Romanian Minister of Communications and Information Society, Alexandru Petrescu told Radio Romania News Channel (RRA).

This future European directive will have a positive impact on small businesses that develop digital applications and will ultimately help all European citizens, Romanian Minister of Communications and Information Society says.

Minister Alexandru Petrescu: It implies easier access of companies to data held by public sector institutions. Generally, public sector institutions have an extremely rich database. It may be related to weather information, traffic information, economic information, financial data. All these data can be accessed more easily by small and medium-sized businesses and can be used in commercial applications or social applications, because we also talk about urban concentration data, we can talk about education data, health.

European directive on re-using public sector information (also known as the PSI Directive) will have to be adopted by each EU Member State after it is published in the Official Journal of the European Union, Minister Petrescu also says, according to RRA Reporter Cătălin Radu.
