A C-130 plane of the Romanian Air Force took off yesterday to the Libyan city of Benghazi with aid for the victims of the catastrophic floods of a few days ago.

Romania will send a total of 55 tons of aid, which will be transported in six trips.

The floods mainly devastated the city of Derna, where the official toll is approaching 4.000 dead and 10.000 people are missing.

The streets of the city, especially in the center, densely populated and the most affected, are covered with a thick layer of mud, uprooted trees, hundreds of overturned cars.

The disaster occurred when two dams near the city failed following torrential rains late last week.
