Romania and Bulgaria will have limited access to the Schengen information system from 1 July.
It will be possible to consult the information, but no changes will be made to the system.
However, the authorities of the two countries will be able to see the visa history of an applicant and check the validity of Schengen visas issued by other Member States.
Full access to the Schengen information system will become possible once Bulgaria and Romania are fully integrated into the free movement area, says the European Commission.
