Road builders were fined forty million euros

The Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads requires that road builders be fined more than forty million euros for having delayed contractual obligations.

According to the National News Agency Agerpres, the Romanian National Company of Motorways and National Roads requires that road builders pay a fine of more than forty million euros, an amount that accumulated between September, 2010 and March, 2011.

They were fined for having delayed contractual obligations.

The fine added up to the sum of money won by arbitration after road builders had fought against Secol Company over the rehabilitation contract for the National Road 65 and over three International Bank for Reconstruction and Development contracts of 2 141 million euros.

The French Colas Company, that had to build the Cernavodă-Medgidia motorway section with more than sixteen million euros, has to pay the highest fine for not having forwarded works schedule, for having delayed in obtaining permits and in designing new variants.

The FCC Construccion-Astaldi Company, the consortium that was named to design a a plan to avoid Constanţa, was fined over twelve million euros.

Likewise, there were other companies which were fined sums between13 000 and 50 000 euros for works of smaller dimensions.
