Protests Against the Gold Exploitation at Rosia Montana

On Sunday, thousands protested in Bucharest and other cities in Romania and abroad against the opening of the gold exploitation at Rosia Montana.

The protesters called on the MPs to reject the bill tabled by the Government.

They claim the technological process used to extract gold involves the use of cyanides, that would irreversibly pollute the environment and the mining activity would destroy historic sites unique in the entire world.

Besides, the protesters consider the gold mining project would benefit the Canadian company, and not the Romanian State.
