Romania should coordinate its economic and development policies with Poland, said Prime Minister Victor Ponta, who is paying an official visit to Warsaw.

The talks between Mr Ponta and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk focused on the bilateral cooperation and on the European agenda.

They also considered convening a forum where regional and local leaders could share their experience and expertise in implementing the cohesion policy, in absorbing and using the structural EU funds and in regionalization.

The Polish Prime Minister said his country and Romania were both interested in exploring and extracting shale gas, as well as in finding alternative sources of energy, in order to ensure their independence.

He also noted Romania had a 2% economic growth, while the crisis was deepening in Europe.
