President Klaus Iohannis called the parties to consultations on Monday

Articol de Amalia Bojescu, 11 Decembrie 2020, 01:45

On Monday, President Klaus Iohannis summoned representatives of the parties that entered parliament after Sunday's election, in order to appoint a prime minister to form a new government.

The series of talks will start with the representatives of PSD, the party that obtained the most votes - almost 30%, but which does not have a majority.

The consultations will continue with PNL, the USR-PLUS Alliance, the Alliance for the Union of Romanians, UDMR and the national minorities.

The president has already discussed on Thursday, December 10, the leaders of the parties that could form a center-right coalition. The leaders of PNL, USR PLUS and UDMR had an informal discussion with the President of Romania, after the Minister of Finance, Florin Citu, was proposed for the position of Prime Minister.

Portfolios were not discussed, but it was agreed in principle that the future government should be as flexible as possible. By Saturday, when talks will officially begin, the three parties must establish their negotiation strategies, both for the parliamentary majority and for the governing program.

During the evening of Thursday, December 10, the meeting of the PSD National Political Council took place, in which the results of the parliamentary elections were analyzed and the future strategy was established.
