President Klaus Iohannis attends today a meeting with European and NATO leaders at the Bucharest Format (B 9) Summit in Kosice, Slovak Republic, Romanian Presidential Administration informs in a press release.

B9 Summit has been launched a few years ago, at the initiative of Romania and Poland, in the idea of a closer co-ordination on the Eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance. Summit in Kosice is to be attended by Heads of State from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia, as well as by NATO Secretary General.

There is a plenary session dealing with the security situation, and also closed-door talks. President Iohannis's message focuses on continuing active support of the North Atlantic Alliance for its threatened partners.

Head of State voiced concern about developments in the Black Sea region, arguing that recent military action has shown that Russia continues to threaten stability of this region.

President of Romania stressed that NATO and the EU need to cooperate closely.

Military mobility, support for neighbors in the Eastern part and for the Western Balkans, countering hybrid threats should remain common priorities, Head of State said.

At the end of the day, Presidents of Romania and Poland, as initiators of the B9 format, will hold a joint press conference where President of Slovakia will also be present.

During the break between the two plenary sessions, the nine Heads of State and NATO Secretary General will attend a ceremony of unveiling a commemorative plaque dedicated to the 70th anniversary since creation of the North Atlantic Alliance.
