Premiere in Romania: Congress-European Federation of Master Chimney Sweeps
Specialists from 17 countries, including the US, are gathered to discuss current challenges.

City of Târgu Mureș hosts, until 26 August, the Congress of the European Federation of Master Chimney Sweeps (ESCHFOE 2018), a premiere in Romania. Specialists from 17 countries, including the United States, are gathered to discuss current challenges in reference to fireplace safety standards, energy policy and aligning EU legislation for regular checking and cleaning, to prevent fire damage and carbon monoxide poisoning.
By cleaning fireplaces and flue installations, chimney sweeps ensure safe heating. But many owners are not aware of the danger and ultimately skimp on their own safety. Recently, though, national chimney sweeping associations have identified an increase in fire damage and carbon monoxide poisoning. This is why one of ESCHFOE’s goals is to raise awareness of fireplace safety in political circles and among the public. Regular checking and cleaning is important and should be anchored in law. ESCHFOE recommends installing smoke alarms and fire extinguishers as a supplementary measure.
European Federation of Master Chimney Sweeps (ESCHFOE) represents the interests of the European chimney sweeping trade. Members are associations and guilds from 21 countries in Europe and the United States. Association is registered in Brussels, Belgium and represented by a General Secretariat in Sankt Augustin, Germany. From here, ESCHFOE network operates on a European level and fosters contact with partner associations, political bodies, legislators, market partners and interest groups. Association informs the public about topics such as fire safety, environmental protection and energy saving, and conflates information from member countries.
ESCHFOE is instrumental in developing standards on a national and international level. Association supports chimney sweeping business in member countries through technical training, supply of training content and basic principles in occupational safety, development of work-related hardware and software, and exploration of new professional responsibilities.
ESCHFOE is committed to uniform quality standards in the European chimney sweeping trade and to preserving tradition.
