There have been 35 thousand new employment contracts in the past month, after the new Labour Code came into force, Prime Minister and Interim Minister of Labour, Emil Boc, says.

Emil Boc said that there had been over 11 thousand inspections by mixed teams made up of inspectors, policemen and Financial Guard representatives that gave out fines amounting to 14 million RON for unreported employment.

According to PM Boc, the large number of new contracts is a sign that Romania has overcome the crisis.

‘This is the highest number of contracts since 2008, when the electronic centralized registry of employees was set up, back when there was no crisis or recession in Romania.

‘This confirms the statement that we have officially overcome the recession. It is impossible to have officially overcome the recession, but have less employment contracts or more unemployed people’, the PM added.

Emil Boc also said that the unemployment rate decreased by 0.44 percent in May, reaching 4.97 percent. with over 453 unemployed people.

Vaslui County has the highest unemployment rate, 9.25 percent, while Timiş County the lowest, 1.09 percent.
