Omar Hayssam was handed to Romanian Police Friday morning, according to a press release of the presidential administration.

According to the cited source, other details about this operation can not be made public.

Omar Hayssam’s bringing in Romania to serve his prison sentence of 20 years for terrorism, convicted of kidnapping three Romanian journalists in Iraq is the result of some complex activities carried long time by the national security institutions of the Romanian state.

The complex action to bring Omar Hayssam into the country lasted five years, according to the cited source.

President Traian Basescu thank the authorities involved in this operation, is it also shown in the statement.

OmarHayssam's handing, "a sign that Romania is a solid state"

Presidential Advisor for Strategic Affairs and Security Chifu believes that Omar Hayssam’s handing to Bucharest authorities is a clear signal that Romania is a solid state, which brings home its serious convicted criminals.

In an exclusive interview for Radio Romania News, Iulian Chifu said that state institutions must further demonstrate that they operate efficiently, by judging the facts that led to the escape of Omar Hayssam.

We recall that Omar Hayssam is a Syrian businessman with Romanian citizenship, involved in Romanian journalists crisis kidnapped in Iraq in 2005.

The following year, he left our country under unclear circumstances that subsequently generated controversy.

In 2007 he was convicted in Romania for terrorist to a penalty of 20 years in prison.

Omar Hayssam has three warrants on his name

Omar Hayssam was placed in a remand retaining center of the Romanian Police, based on the three warrants of execution of prison sentence issued on his name, according to a press release of IGPR.

Omar Hayssam was sentenced on 29.06.2010 by the magistrates of the Court of Appeal to 3 years in prison for fraudulent bankruptcy.

On 30.10.2012 was issued on his name by the Court of Appeal Oradea the execution of imprisonment through which he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for terrorism.

On 23/11/2012 he was sentenced by the Bucharest Court to 16 years in prison for fraud with serious consequences and association to commit crimes.
