NATO will not open new military bases in Romania in connection with the crisis in Ukraine, The announcement was made after the Republican Senator John McCain (Arizona), the Republican Senator Ron Johnson (Wisconsin) and the Democrat Senator Chris Murphy (Connecticut) ended their visit to Bucharest.

The U.S. senators reiterated the need to strengthen military presence at the eastern borders of the Alliance in the aftermath of the Ukrainian crisis, but did not support the idea of opening a permanent military base in Romania.
