National Press Review, 13 October

“Ion Diaconescu, the end of a historical destiny”, the România Liberă wrote on the front page.

The paper wrote about the man who entered politics at 19 years old, at 30 he went to prison and at 73 years he re-launched the political party. The article described in detail all the stages in the life of the PNTCD leader, but also the disappointment that has marked him it during his last years. Ion Diaconescu died at 94 years, discontented with the sad fate because of his party having reached the outskirts of Romanian politics, the publication concluded.

The Evenimentul Zilei carried an interview with Sebastian Lăzăroiu, the former Minister of Labour, who presented his vision of how should the Romanian political scene evolve until the elections.

“The New Republic of Lăzăroiu” has “five lines of attack”, which were detailed and synthesized on the front page along several answers to questions about relations within the ruling coalition, the reasons for the dismissal of the Executive, and the future route of the Social Liberal Union.

The Adevărul considered that “Romania could be the great successful winner of the agrarian reform in the European Union”, thanks to additional EU funds that might be awarded in 2014 compared to 2013.

Only the Baltic States are more favorable than our country, while Belgium and Greece are among the biggest losers of the future policy developed by the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Dacian Cioloş.

The newspaper noted the key points through which “the agricultural reform brings more money in Romania”, but subject to the rules imposed by the officials in Brussels.

We end today's press review with the Jurnalul Naţional, which wrote on the front page the retrospective of last 24 hours in the life of American basketball player Hardy Chauncey.

The publication includes the “Chronicle of an unexpected death”, a tragedy marked by controversy that overshadowed in just a few hours the victory of teams CSS Giurgiu against team Dinamo Bucharest.

The newspaper also noted the deficiencies found by the authorities in the medical procedures that led to the fining of Giurgiu County Hospital, emergency physicians and ambulance service.
