Klaus Iohannis: Sanitary restrictions must continue to be respected

President Klaus Iohannis believes that the situation after the reopening of schools is good, but warns that health restrictions must continue to be observed.

The statement of the president comes after he discussed yesterday with the minister of education, in the context in which only a few days after the resumption of courses with physical presence, dozens of cases of coronavirus infection were reported among students and teachers. Oana Bala comes with a summary of the president's message.

Reporter: Oana Bala - President Klaus Iohannis announced that over two million students have physically resumed school on Monday, February 8, which represents over 70% of all students in Romania, the others continuing their studies online. However, the head of state warned that the pandemic is not over, even if we are in a plateau phase.

He drew attention to the fact that the restrictions must continue to be observed and urged Romanians to get vaccinated when it is their turn.

During the discussion he had with the Minister of Education, the President of Romania also spoke about the financing of education from the funds that our country will benefit from through the European Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.

In this context, he stressed that there are many schools with problems due to the fact that the education system was not sufficiently funded and specified that European money can be invested in the digitization and modernization of schools, but also in introducing the concept of "green schools".
