Romanian Justice Minister, Tudorel Toader, announced that he will attend the Constitutional Court of Romania’s (CCR) debate on the notification regarding a conflict between the Government and President Klaus Iohannis, after the Head of State rejected the request to dismiss National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) Chief Prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi.

Tudorel Toader: I spoke to the Prime Minister and she asked me to maintain the issues pointed out in the notification: unconstitutionality, behavior and creating an institutional blockage between the President of Romania and the Justice Minister. We come up with arguments; Court will decide.

Justice Minister of Justice also stated that Article 132 of the Constitution provides that prosecutors operate under the authority of the Minister of Justice.

He said that prosecutors have forgotten about this article, and changes to the laws of Justice have only made their provisions consistent with the fundamental law.
