Iuliu Winkler: The European Union would benefit from Romania's accession to the Schengen area

The European Union would benefit from Romania's accession to the Schengen area, believes UDMR MEP, Iuliu Winkler.
In an intervention on Radio Romania News, he stated that, against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine and the energy crisis, a success story is also needed:
Iuliu Winkler: For 11 years, Romania and Bulgaria have met the technical criteria for accession to the Schengen area, and until now, in all these 11 years, we have requested accession to the Schengen area as being in our interest. Now the paradigm shift is that, in the conditions of the war in Ukraine, in the conditions of the economic crisis, in the conditions where every Eurocent that can be saved is important for all European economies, now the European Union needs this enlargement. I think that the European Commission, in these difficult conditions in which we find ourselves today, needs a success story.
