Today, President Klaus Iohannis called on the public to strictly abide by the rules of protection against infection with the new coronavirus, in the context in which, in the last 24 hours, 555 new cases of infection have been registered.

The president was at the Cantacuzino Institute in Bucharest this afternoon, where he made press statements.

President Klaus Iohannis said that until a few weeks ago the evolution of the pandemic was kept under control, but at present, things are not evolving in a positive direction, and the responsibility is shared between the authorities and the citizens.

The head of state made a new appeal to the population to wear a mask, to respect social-distancing and to wash their hands often, and added that if the situation worsens, restrictive measures may return.

The head of state also called on politicians and parliamentarians to put aside their differences and urgently debate the law clarifying isolation and quarantine.

On the other hand, the President of Romania considers that the local elections can be organized on September 27, if certain norms are observed, with a campaign carried out more in the online environment.
