Iohannis, discussion with Angela Merkel before the EC videoconference

A European Council video conference meeting took place yesterday evening.
Member States' leaders discussed how to manage the pandemic with a focus on mutual recognition of COVID-19 testing, progress in vaccine development and a common approach to lifting restrictions, according to a statement from the European Council.
In preparation for this meeting, President Klaus Iohannis had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at her request.
The head of state specified that Romania was constantly in favor of finalizing as soon as possible the negotiations on the multiannual budget of the European Union for the period 2021-2027 and supported from the beginning the establishment of a conditionality on compliance with the rule of law in managing the European Union budget.
