Hungarian line of teaching at UMP Târgu-Mureş

The government has approved the establishment of a Hungarian line of teaching at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Târgu-Mureş, as Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania (UDMR) has requested.

The Education minister, Cătălin Baba, specified that in fact it is not about new sections, but respecting the National Education Law.

“There isn’t any new program of studying. All programs are programs that exist and, that, presently, are taking place within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Târgu-Mureş.”

“The faculty that was established has within its composition programs in Romanian, Hungarian and English line.

If the government and the ministry, obviously, had not implemented the National Education Law, we would have been accused for abuse in function”, declared Cătălin Baba.

Immediately after the government announcement, the opposition has announced that will establish, as soon as possible, the moment when the motion of censure will be deposited.

The Democratic Social Party (PSD) leader, Victor Ponta, has specified that the Liberal-Social Union (USL) is already preparing the document.

“What I consider that it must be outlined through this motion of censure is the negotiating and black-mailing governance and the fact that the prime-minister proves to be a man who cannot resist at black-mailing.

"All these decisions that are taken in this period are decisions that will last for the future.

“What will we do after? To abolish the faculty in Hungarian language? It is much harder repair than prevent”, declared Victor Ponta.

At the mid-March, the government has announced that will establish the Hungarian line of teaching at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Târgu-Mureş.

The initiative complies with an older request of UDMR.

Formerly, the Hungarian deputies and parliamentarians have conditioned their participation to parliamentary debates in order to solve their request.

The president of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, declared that the adoption of a governmental decision in order to create a faculty with a Hungarian line teaching is the only way through which can be applied the Education Law.
