Greece was the central subject of the informal European Council meeting in Brussels ended Thursday morning.

The conclusion , according to the correspondent of Radio Romania Actualități , Luminița Apostol , is that Athens enjoys the support of all, despite the extremely serious situation.

Through the President of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy, EU leaders confirmed that they want to remain as Greece in the euro area but that Athens must comply with their commitments.

The message had been transmitted until now only by euro area and now has received the support of all of the 27 States of the Union.

The President of the European Council noted that the rest of the countries are aware of the efforts already made by Greek citizens, but recalled that the Europeans and the International Monetary Fund have been so far with Greece.

The euro area has given proof of solidarity and since 2010 and so far has granted Greece loans worth about 150 billion euros, pointed out President Herman Van Rompuy and insisted that reforms that Athens should make are the best way for a prosperous future in the euro area.

He expressed hope that this way will be the future choice of Greek government , resulting in elections next month.

France proposes another way to support Greece

The French President, François Hollande, at the first meeting with European colleagues since taking over the function, explained another way to help Greece.

"I said in the statement on Greece that the structural funds will be mobilised to support the efforts of European growth of Greece and to give confidence for Greek voters for what will follow after elections on June 17," said the French President.

He denied that there were what he called the simulations of Greece that it would get out of the euro area.

Officially, the existence of contingency plans for such cases was denied including by the Greek Government.

Romania, "prepared for an eventual output of Greece in the euro area"

President Traian Băsescu said that Romania is prepared to lessen the damage of a possible withdrawal of Greece from the euro area, told the Radio România Actualități correspondent, Carmen Valică.

Traian Băsescu stated in the conference at the end of the informal meeting of European leaders that Romania is ready and the legislature in terms of resources, but this does not mean that there will be no damages and expenses that Romanian State should intervene.

Romania demands for the future of the European Union's budget to increase the structural funds for the new states entered the European Union.

President Traian Băsescu stated in the Conference at the end of the discussion in Brussels that another application is the extension of the deadline until 2016 for the use of the funds available for the period 2007-2013.

The request is based on the low capacity of attraction and -spending of European money.

In the same context, Romania requests to introduce more flexible rules to permit the transfer of funds from one program to another, for example from programmes in which the spending rate is extremely low, 2 to 4 per cent, to programs that work better.
