Free of charge heart surgeries for children at G.Alexandrescu Hospital

Children with congenital heart defects will be operated free of charge by medical teams from Romania and the United States of America at Grigore Alexandrescu Children Emergency Clinic Hospital in Bucharest.
Complex operations of pediatric heart surgery, which have been done only abroad, can now be done in Romania too.
Medical teams from the United States often come at the Cardiology Department of Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital, where there is equipment at international standards. Together with Romanian physicians, they perform open-heart surgeries for children with cardiac problems who until now couldn’t have access to, said Dr.Felix Negoițescu, Manager of the Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital, in an interview offered to RRA Reporter Luminița Voinea.
This kind of heart surgery is a premiere in Romania and uses state-of-the-art technology.
Such surgery would amount to 10,000 euros in Romania, but under the program of the Grigore Alexandrescu Hospital, through the Cardiology Department, it is free of charge.
These days, medical doctors do the selection of the patients who need surgery.
Up to now, 50 children with cardiac malformations have been operated.
