The former heads of the Gendarmerie - Gheorghe Cucos, Ionut Sindile and Laurentiu Cazan - were sent to court in the "August 10" file. The decision comes five years after the rally in Piata Victoriei, forcibly dispersed by the gendarmes.

The three are accused of abuse of office or abusive behavior because they ordered, in violation of the law, the intervention of the gendarmes.

According to the military prosecutors, the actions of the defendants resulted in restricting the freedom of assembly and the right to physical and mental integrity of the demonstrators.

The gendarmes then used more than 60 hand grenades with an acoustic effect, almost 500 grenades with a tear gas effect and hundreds of cartridges with an irritating effect.

312 demonstrators are civil parties in the case, and the case will be resolved at the Bucharest Military Court.
