First Romanian Photo Exhibition in Kandahar: Radio Romania Project

"Faces of the War": event dedicated to the memory of Romanian sub-lieutenant Mădălin Stoica who died in Afghanistan.

Articol de Radio România, 01 Decembrie 2017, 18:06

A photo exhibition with 50 pictures that have been taken in Afghanistan over the years by Radio Romania Press Correspondent in Afghanistan Ilie Pintea has been officially opened at the military base of Kandahar, on the occasion of Romania National Day: December 1st.

Portraits of soldiers from the Coalition, children from Afghan villages, people who walk the roads between cities - for any photographer, an incursion into this space is an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

During missions carried out in recent years alongside the Romanian Army, Radio Romania War Correspondent Ilie Pintea had the opportunity to photograph faces that, without words, tell the story of this war.

The photographs made by Radio Romania's journalist over the years highlight the sacrifice of military servicemen in Afghanistan, the innocence of children affected by war, and the worries for the uncertain present, reflected on the faces of Afghanistan's locals. The context of this photo presentation is as appropriate as in 2017, Romania marks 20 years since the signing of the Strategic Partnership with the USA and 15 years of presence of the Romanian Armed Forces in Afghanistan's theater of operations.

The photo exhibition, organized by Radio Romania in partnership with the Romanian Ministry of National Defense, is dedicated to the memory of Romanian sub-lieutenant Mădălin Stoica, military of the Brave Hearts Force Protection Infantry Battalion part of NATO Resolute Support Mission, who lost his life in the line of duty during his mission in Afghanistan, on September 15 this year. Radio Romania Reporter Ilie Pintea was also the journalist who photographed and interviewed sub-lieutenant Mădălin Stoica for the last time.
