Romanian fencer Ana Maria Popescu has won the silver medal in the individual female epee event of the Fencing World Championship in Wuxi (China).

Romanian fencer Ana Maria Popescu has won the silver medal in the individual female epee event of the Fencing World Championship in Wuxi (China) on Sunday. After an excellent path to the final, the Romanian fencer was defeated in the final by Italian Mara Navarria 13-9.

Popescu's performance comes in less than a year after her return to the competitive activity.

On the way to the final, Ana Maria defeated Kanna Oishi – Japan (15-19), Italian Rossella Fiamingo (15-8), Ukrainian Feybi Bejura (15-9), Ukrainian Olena Kryvytska in the quarter-finals (15-11) and American Courtney Hurley in the semi-final (14-13), Romanian Fencing Federation informs.

Ana Maria Popescu, Olympic champion with the Romanian team at the 2016 Olympic Games, had the best performance at a world championship, individually, winning the silver medal.

Ana Maria Popescu also has two bronze medals at the world championships, won at World Championship in Lisbon 2002 and in Catania 2011.
