2017 GAUDEAMUS International Book Fair, organized by Radio Romania, opens its gates next Wednesday at the Central Pavilion of the ROMEXPO Exhibition Center in Bucharest.

President Director-General of the Romanian Broadcasting Corporation, Georgică Severin, talked about this year’s GAUDEAMUS Guest of Honor, European Commission, at today’s press conference held at the Radio Romania Press Center:

Georgică Severin: "We are establishing this extremely honorable Partnership for Radio Romania! The presence of the European Commission Representation at this year’s edition of Gaudeamus represents a crowning for the 10 years since Romania is a EU Member State. The Fair covers an area of 14,000 square meters, all for books stands, a way of cultivating a pure culture, a way perhaps some people consider obsolete, but that - at least in my view and in the views of my colleagues in Radio Romania- remains a foundation for classical culture: the book".

In the ten years of Romania's membership to the European Union, there have been made important steps regarding cultural exchanges and Education, said the Head of the European Commission Representation in Bucharest, Angela Cristea.

Angela Cristea: "We named our stand ’Home in Europe’, because I hope everyone in Romania feels at home in Europe, that was the whole logic of Romania's accession to the European Union, to feel ourselves at home! We will talk about lots of things, of this Erasmus program that has allowed tens of thousands of young Romanians study for a while in another European Union Member State and then return home, with the thirst for ‚something different', enriched by this experience”.

According to RRA Reporter Mihaela Helmis, 300 exhibitors will be present at the Gaudeamus Fair next week and over 800 events are scheduled.
