Eight people died and 67 have been injured in a violent storm that hit on Sunday afternoon the Western part of Romania.

Timiş County is the most affected by this storm. Other regions that have been affected are Buziaș, Arad, Bistrița and Caraș-Severin. The high-altitude mountain road Transfăgărășan and National Road 18 in Northern Maramureș County have also had traffic interruption because of fallen trees.

There have been almost 440 requests for emergency 112 phone calls in the City of Timişoara.

The storm has damaged nearly a hundred roofs and 30 vehicles, ripped out over 200 trees and downed power lines, in winds as high as 100km/h.

According to Agerpres, 30 people have received treatment after being injured by different flying objects.

Dozens of towns and villages were left without electricity. Road and traffic have been interrupted because of fallen trees.

Sunday’s storm followed several days of high temperatures.

Hundreds of firefighters were deployed in rescue and clean-up operations.
