European Commission President Jean Claude Juncker will be in Bucharest to attend the Third Seas Initiative Summit scheduled for 17-18 September. He will hold a speech in the plenary session on Tuesday.

Nine Heads of State, two Presidents of National Parliaments and a Prime Minister are to participate at this summit, organized by the Romanian Presidential Administration.

Talks aim to identify new ways of developing countries in the Central and South-Eastern Europe region by increasing transport, energy and digital interconnectivity.

The Three Seas Initiative is a political platform launched in 2015 and composed of 12 European Union Member States, located between the Adriatic, Baltic and Black Seas.

The Three Seas Initiative aims at stimulating a rapid development of the region encompassing Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas. This is to be achieved through both high level and multi-stakeholder commitment to boosting up connectivity among the member states, with special focus on infrastructure, energy and digital interconnectivity.

Improvement of the infrastructure connections of the 12 states is an essential condition for building an area of stability and prosperity, which in turn can greatly contribute to wider EU stability and prosperity. Setting a new dynamic of cooperation among the countries lying at the Eastern border of the EU on the North – South Axis will advance economic growth and help to bridge the East – West economic gap, within the EU.
