Draft amendment to the Fiscal Code, in public debate

The Ministry of Finance has put on public debate on its website the draft amendment to the Fiscal Code, which would be adopted by the Executive next week, according to government sources.
The changes agreed by the majority coalition to increase budget revenues include an increase in excise duties on tobacco and alcoholic beverages, VAT on HoReCa and property taxes.
At the same time, the changes aim to increase the dividend tax from 5 to 8%, lower the income threshold up to which a company is considered a micro-enterprise, increase the VAT to 9% for non-alcoholic or flavored soft drinks.
In addition, the gambling tax increases from 1 to 40%.
The increase in excise duty on cigarettes and alcohol will enter into force from 1 August this year, and the other measures on 1 January next year.
