Consultations with parliamentary parties to form a majority

Consultations with parliamentary parties to form a majority

Articol de Oana Bâlă, 14 Decembrie 2020, 23:44

On Monday, December 14, President Klaus Iohannis invited representatives of the parties that entered parliament after the December 6 elections for consultations to appoint a prime minister.

This meeting was needed because no party obtained a majority so that it could form the new government on its own.

The first to consult at the Cotroceni Palace were the Social Democrats. The party's president, Marcel Ciolacu, proposed a government of national union, led by doctor Alexandru Rafila.

PNL, the second party with which President Klaus Iohannis talked, nominated Florin Citu for the position of prime minister. At the same time, PNL remains dedicated to the objective of forming a center-right government that will ensure Romania's development and increase the life quality of its citizens.

The USR-PLUS representatives followed the discussions, with the proposal that Dacian Ciolos should take the position of prime minister. The co-president of USR-PLUS, Dan Barna, declared that it is important that this coalition is not one for a short period, but has the potential to govern Romania for four years and to make important reforms.

The Alliance for the Union of Romanians proposed Calin Georgescu for the position of head of the future government.

The UDMR representatives were also present at the meeting, and the discussions ended with the group of national minorities.
