Graham Ellis, Controller of Production BBC Radio & Music and Georgică Severin, President - Director General of Radio Romania, have signed, on Thursday, 3 October 2019, at the Media 2020 Conference, a Collaboration Agreement between the two public media institutions (Radio Romania-BBC). Agreement follows other two collaboration agreements signed by Radio Romania with Radio France and RAI and is part of Radio Romania’s collaboration strategy with the most prestigious public media institutions in Europe.

Radio Romania and the BBC share common European ideals within the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). The two public media organizations, based on strong values and having an important mission - to inform, educate and provide entertainment programs to the public, transmit the story of their own countries not only to the public in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Romania but also to the whole world.

Today we are committed to expressing our conviction that we can capitalize on modern storytelling and share our values as public media services much better, through constant collaboration. We are committed to working together to improve the services and programs we provide to the public.

In a market that is becoming more global, the public in Romania and the United Kingdom are looking for programs and services about their own life and culture. In a period of division, such as this one, it has never been more important to reflect and represent the diversity of our communities. In a world where disinformation is spreading rapidly, we need public media services to bring to society the news and analysis that people can trust.

At a time when we are reinventing the way we deliver our services to new generations, we are joining forces to share ideas on how to attract new audiences, and our teams will explore new common ways of working.

We will consult on new technologies, directing the public to our on-air and off-air programs.

We are committed to organize regular discussions between our companies, both bilaterally and through EBU – states the Agreement signed on 3 Octobr between Radio Romania and BBC at the Media 2020 Conference in Bucharest.

Already a tradition in the media dialogue between Europe and the Asia-Pacific area, the Media 2020 Conference, organized at the initiative of Radio Romania in partnership with the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), has reached this year its 5th edition and has been recognized as one of the most open and constructive media platforms for dialogue between Europe and Asia. Conference is held annually, alternately in Romania and in a member country of ABU. Ever since its first edition, purpose of the event has been to familiarize the public media broadcasters with concrete strategies meant to respond to the challenges of the new digital age - the year 2020 has been set as a milestone, and this year’s edition has the theme Crossing Borders in the Digital World.
