There is no day without bringing at least one fugitive convict back to the country, says the Minister of Justice, Alina Gorghiu.
She announced that as of today, Cristian Baicu is in the custody of the Romanian authorities, who fled the country to the Dominican Republic, where he evaded the execution of a 4-year prison sentence, to which he was sentenced in 2014 for forming an organized criminal group, specialized in counterfeiting and money laundering.
Another famous fugitive, the former mayor of Slatina, Minel Prina, is due to arrive in the country next week.
At the end of last month, an Italian court ordered the extradition, and proceedings for the handover are ongoing. He has a final sentence of 4.5 years in prison for corruption and money laundering.
The Minister of Justice stated that approximately 100 fugitives have been recovered this year from Italy.
