1 October - Start of new academic year in Romania
In Romania there are currently 54 public and 47 private universities.

Around 400,000 students have started, on Tuesday, 1 October, the new academic year in Romania. Number of registered students refers to all three cycles of higher education, namely Bachelor, Master and Doctorate.
Some universities staged official opening ceremonies on Monday, 30 September, but most of the universities have welcomed their students on October 1st. Ferdinand l Technical Military Academy and Carol l Defense University have opened their gates in the presence of Romanian Defense Minister Gabriel Leș.
In Romania there are currently 54 public and 47 private universities. Major university centers in Romania are Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara, Iași, Târgu Mureș, Brașov.
