Romanian Engineer Dan Beiu is the inventor of a 3D dispersion nebulizer specially designed for disinfection of large spaces, a 100% Romanian device, unique at this moment in the world. He was contacted by the World Health Organization to provide details about his invention, amid concerns about the rapid spread of coronavirus.

Engineer Dan Beiu offered an exclusive interview for Radio Romania News "Night Service" show, produced by Maria Țoghina, in which he spoke about the benefits of his device, in this extremely important moment, where the coronavirus also arrived in Romania.

Reporter Luminița Voinea: In trying to ward off the dreaded coronavirus, new methods are emerging that could protect us. We are talking about a nebulizer with 3D dispersion for the hygiene of large, enclosed spaces. It is a 100% Romanian product and Dan Beiu is the one who invented it. How can such a device be helpful, how does it actually work?

Dan Beiu: 95% of the biocidal products, which are intended for volumetric disinfection, are liquid and are based on peroxide. Excess oxygen kills everything that means viruses, bacteria, fungi and spores. It has a sporicidal function and is intended for microaeroflora. It works very simple. A quantity of certified liquid, approved by the European and Romanian forums, is introduced in the device. Through a technical process and using a high-speed compressor, the device disperses it into the chamber, creates an extremely dense fog, formed of nanoparticles, which practically covers every square millimeter of the treatment room.

Reporter: Where is it used right now?

Dan Beiu: We have a lot of equipment at companies that have contracts with hospitals for disinfection of surgery rooms, medical facilities, we have devices at some operators who disinfect kindergartens, schools.

Reporter: So it has already started to be used. How long has it been used?

Dan Beiu: The volumetric dispersion technology is not invented by me. We came up with some add-ons, which improved the performance, increased the speed, because as the times accelerated and the problems increased, the aggressiveness of the viruses and their resistance to products increased, which made us start a study to speed up the equipment and to be able to disperse larger quantities of biocide, according to current requirements. And given the speed of these equipment, we could automatically attack very large volumes. Basically, leaving the modesty aside, we have a very, very fast equipment.

Reporter: Is this nebulizer unique at the moment in the Romanian market?

Dan Beiu: With the performances it has, it is pretty unique in the world.

Reporter: You were contacted by the World Health Organization (WHO), which means that this device has wide echoes. What are the interests of WHO?

Dan Beiu: On an official channel, we provided a descriptive material in English with the method of operation, the type of substances that can be used and the times in which 99.9% results can be obtained. Until now, a surgery room was disinfected in an hour, an hour and a half, plus another 45 minutes in which the fog had to dissipate. From two hours, we have reduced the time percentage to 40 minutes. We have presented the device to Adrian Streinu Cercel, Manager of "Matei Balș" Institute of Infectious Diseases, who understood us and will support a study that will officially prove the efficiency of this equipment through tests.

Reporter: The fact that you have been contacted by WHO is more than likely related to the coronavirus.

Dan Beiu: More than certain. Me and my team have been trying for four and a half years to try to make our voice heard. Because the large volumes, up to now, have been intangible. And when you can't act in a mall, a theater, a polyvalent hall, all those are always at risk. And where there are large crowds of people, there are problems.
