The World Bank is ready to support Romania in its efforts to receive refugees from Ukraine, said the president of the international financial institution, David Malpass, before the first official visit that began today, in Bucharest.

He is accompanied by the Vice President of the Bank for Europe and Central Asia and several regional directors.

Reporter: The two-day visit of the President of the World Bank Group, David Malpass, is his first appearance in Romania since taking office in April 2019.

According to a statement from the international financial institution, the visit reaffirms the World Bank Group's commitment to support Romania in its efforts for sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

David Malpass stated before his arrival in Bucharest that, during this turbulent period, the World Bank is ready to support Romania as it hosts citizens leaving Ukraine, but will also continue to work with public authorities to improve living standards for all Romanians.

The President of the World Bank Group will meet with representatives of the public sector and partners of the group in Romania, and will visit a project carried out with the assistance of the World Bank in the education sector, with a focus on supporting the Roma community.

The active portfolio of the World Bank in Romania consists of nine investment projects worth a total of $1.78 billion and technical and analytical assistance services worth almost $125 million.
