The Romanian Senate adopted the amendment of the Audiovisual Law

The Plenum of the Senate adopted, as a decision-making body, a project initiated by the Government amending the Audiovisual Law, Government Ordinance no. 39/2005 on cinematography and the Law on the functioning of the Romanian Broadcasting Company and the Romanian Television Company, in order to transpose a European directive on the provision of audiovisual media services.

Agerpres reports that the project was adopted with 70 votes "for" and 34 "against".

PNL Senator Alina Gorghiu spoke in plenary about the benefits of this draft normative act, especially for minors, who will be protected against "harmful" content. It also combats content that incites hatred, terrorism, child pornography, xenophobia and racism or other forms of discrimination.

PSD Senator Gabriela Cretu stated, in her turn, that the current form of the draft normative act is adequate to the "relative purpose" and based on the provisions of the European Directive in the field and the problems encountered, with the appearance of online platforms.

Senator Diana Sosoaca criticized the initiative, on the grounds that "it has nothing to do with democracy, but with dictatorship".
