Romanians working and living in the United Kingdom will have the same rights and freedoms after Brexit, Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleşcanu said in an interview for Radio Romania News (Radio Romania Actualităţi).

The Foreign Minister said he has received clear assurances on this issue at a meeting he had yesterday in Bucharest with his British counterpart, Boris Johnson.

Teodor Meleşcanu and Johnson have also discussed about the registration system for those who want to go to the UK. In the view of the Romanian Foreign Minister, the new system should not harm the rights of those who work, study and live in the UK.

Teodor Meleşcanu: "As a country that will no longer be a member of the European Union, the UK will have to set up a system of registration and supervision of the free movement of citizens - and this will have to be done in such a way as not to prejudice the rights of those who are in the UK, but also to set up new possible rules for those who want to go to the UK either to study, live or work in this country".
