Sibiu Young Festival 2-11 November

Over 40 shows performed by artists from the UK, Poland, Italy, Bolivia, Germany, France, Japan, Sweden, Canada and Romania.

City of Sibiu, Romania hosts, during 2-11 November, at the Gong Theater, Sibiu Young Festival, bringing over 40 shows performed by artists from the UK, Poland, Italy, Bolivia, Germany, France, Japan, Sweden, Canada and Romania.

In one of the festival days, up to 15 children diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorders will take part in the show of the UK representatives, and will be joined on stage by seven actors. Families and companions are encouraged to remain at the show, to try sensory games alongside actors on stage. Finally, the participating children will stage William Shakespeare's "Dream of a Summer Night".

Director of the Festival, Adrian Tibu: "This year's edition makes a challenging chronicle on the world around us through a selection that shows both sensory baby shows of only six months to a series of animation shows that combine the game technique with puppets and virtual reality for children, as well as eclectic shows for teenagers.Festival is one of the performing arts, in the sense that we do not only present theater, but also dance, music, as well as exhibitions, book launches and workshops. It's a complex program, I say, because we try to offer a good alternative to spending time both with friends and family".

RRA Reporter: Where are the guests coming from?

Adrian Tibu: "This year we have 200 guests from 14 countries, as a premiere, we have a theater company from the UK – Flute Theater, which presents a participatory theater show for children with autism and their families, we also have a theater show from Bolivia, a production signed by Director Diego Aramburo, that proposes a re-adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. We have the Nabstro Japanese Dance Company, we have France as a special guest so in the first week we present francophone performances of Theater Santois, Valrouge Company, Nanterre Dance Company".

RRA Reporter: Festival starts on Friday, November 2nd.

Adrian Tibu: "It will be open by two parties, an animation show, and a party tonight for the children. Festival will also focus on gastronomic theater, with performances in this area especially created to set a preamble and to announce that Sibiu will mark the European Region of Gastronomy".

The Sibiu Young Festival offers a captivating program designed both for children and teenagers, while bringing together the whole family for an energizing experience. From animated shows for toddlers, to the magic of circus and puppets for kids, all the way to eclectic theatre and dance shows for youngsters, the festival brings viewers closer to what is new in the field of performing arts and puts a light on the current issues that new generations of parents and educators face nowadays.

Sibiu Young Festival is funded by the Local City Council of Sibiu and supported by The National Theatre Union in Romania. Founded in 1949 around various cultural practices and expressions, Sibiu GONG Theatre for Children and Youth is a public cultural institution with an extensive repertoire, among which puppet animation performances as well as actors on stage performances. Being one of the first professional institution of this type in Romania, Gong Theatre attends to the artistic education and formation of children and youngsters using the latest and most diverse forms of expression of the theatrical art and the art of animation, by means of a series of performances of various problematic complexities, starting from the educational factor and going into the entertainment field.
