Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (January-July 2019) aims, in the first three months of the mandate, to conclude the legislative files that depend on cooperation with the European Parliament, Romanian Minister-Delegate for European Affairs, George Ciamba, told Radio Romania News Channel (RRA).

RRA Reporter Carmen Gavrilă: There is time only until April 2019 for Romania to work closely with the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union (Council of Ministers) to conclude the legislative files, because then starts the campaign for the European Parliament elections, Minister-Delegate George Ciamba said. The second part of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council will be dedicated to the EU Summit in Sibiu on the future of Europe, scheduled for 9 May 2019. Minister Ciamba also pointed out that Romanian EU Presidency might face a possible Brexit without an agreement with the European Union.

Romanian Minister-Delegate for EU Affairs, George Ciamba: Our Presidency will have the task to coordinate legislative dossiers in order to ensure, as reasonable as possible, that EU or UK citizens are not affected and asider of what the Commission is prepared to do, by its authority, EU Presidency will have the very important role of promoting legislative files that will of course have to be managed in a rather short period of time, because date of Brexit is approaching and everything that is being discussed these days is linked with the vote in the UK’s House of Commons.

RRA Reporter: Romania will have to act impartially as current President of the Council of the European Union, but at the same time Romania will have to be able to reach qualified majority within the EU Council, to allow common positions at Council level on different dossiers currently on the EU agenda, Romanian Minister-Delegate for EU Affairs told Radio Romania News Channel (RRA).
