Head of the Romanian Government, Mrs. Viorica Dăncilă, presented, in front of the European Parliament gathered in Strasbourg for its January plenary session, the priorities of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

RRA Special Envoy to Strasbourg Andrei Serban: "Europe has always known how to overcome the obstacles, and today we are again in a complex moment of the European construction process", Romanian Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă said.

Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) expressed different views following the Speech of Romanian Prime Minister. European socialists and democrats support the priorities of Romania's EU Council Presidency and consider it is important to achieve a European single market, to solve the issue of migration and to safeguard the European space.

Other MEPs, belonging to EPP and Liberals, have drawn attention that Prime Minister should not accept a possible government emergency ordinance on amnesty, and that fight against corruption must continue in an effective manner and the real independence of the judiciary must be ensured.  Answering to these statements, Prime Minister Viorica Dăncilă pointed out that she did not come to Strasbourg to account for certain things, but to find solutions to make the European Union strong and to provide solutions for European citizens.

Viorica Dăncilă thanked the European Commission for its support.

Romanian Prime Minister reaffirmed, in Strasbourg, in the plenary of the European Parliament, that Cohesion is the focus of the preoccupation of the Romanian EU Presidency, as a basic principle.

Viorica Dăncilă: Political Cohesion, illustrated by the need for unity between Member States, economic and territorial cohesion, in order to reduce development gaps between Member States and regions, and social cohesion, important in preserving the four freedoms of the EU internal market.

RRA Special Envoy:  There were 20 MEPs who took the floor and over 10 who had spontaneous interventions following Romanian Prime Minister’s speech in the plenary of the European Parliament.

At the end, Romanian Prime Minister had a joint press conference with European Parliament President Antonio Tajani.
