Romania ranked sixth in the EU in wheat production last year, with a total of 6.4 million tons.
The harvest in 2020 was almost four million tons lower than the previous year due to extreme pedological drought, according to provisional data published by the National Institute of Statistics.
The largest wheat harvest was reported by France, followed by Germany, Poland, Spain and Italy.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Romania exported last year in the intra and extra-community space over 2/3 of the obtained quantity, collecting more than 840 million euros.
Domestic consumption of wheat amounts to about three million tonnes, of which 2.2 million are used in bakery.
