Radio Romania broadcasts opening Concert for Grand Union Centenary events



Radio Romania, through all its national and regional stations, broadcasts live, on Sunday, November 26 between 20:00 and 22:00, the Concert that marks the debut of the events scheduled to celebrate the Centenary of the Grand Union (1918). This opening event is organized by the Romanian Government, through the Ministry of Culture and National Identity, at the Ion Luca Caragiale National Theater in Bucharest.

The Concert will performed by the Romanian Youth Orchestra, under the baton of Cristian Măcelaru, one of the most distinguished Romanian conductors of the moment, with a top international career. It can be listened live on Radio Romania Actualităţi, Radio Romania Cultural, Radio Romania Music, Antena Satelor, Radio Romania International, as well as on the frequencies of regional Radio Romania stations in Bucharest, Iaşi, Timişoara, Reşiţa, Târgu-Mureş, Cluj-Napoca, Constanţa, Craiova and Chişinău.

The soloists of the event are soprano Adela Zaharia - who won in 2017 Operalia Contest organized by Placido Domingo, tenor Ştefan Pop, winner of the same prestigious competition in 2010, violinist Ștefan Tarara, awarded with the first prize at the George Enescu Contest in 2014. Foreign musicians with prestigious international activity are also present:soprano Kristine Opolais, tenor Marcelo Alvarez and violinists Julian Rachlin and Michael Barenboim.

The Concert will be commented on Radio Romania by Anca Ioana Andriescu, Radio Romania Music Producer. In the preamble of this direct broadcast, Radio România Cultural and Radio România Muzical transmit, starting with 19:00, the show entitled „Romania in the Centenary Year”, produced by Dan Manolache, with live interventions from the Ion Luca Caragiale National Theater in Bucharest.

Special guest in this radio show will be specialist in the history of the Grand Union period, and they will talk about the key moments that preceded the Grand Union, as they are seen today, who were the main actors and how their actions from the past are interpreted today. Some of the upcoming events of the 1918 Union's celebration program will be also discussed with authorized representatives of the Romanian Academy, the Museum Network and the Centenary Committee.

The Concert will also be streamed live on the websites of all the radio stations of the public broadcasting corporation.
