Quarantine law, necessary "in any country with an advanced health system"

The Senate postponed to Monday the final vote on the adoption of the law regulating quarantine and isolation, although, after more than seven hours of debate late last night, it was decided that the vote would take place today.

In the morning, however, the Committee on Legal Affairs considered by a majority vote that more discussions and studies of European practices in the field were needed.

The prime minister said he was outraged by this decision in the context of the negative evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a record of new cases today, almost 700.

Present at the Senate debates, Secretary of State Raed Arafat said that the lack of obligation for infected patients to isolate themselves has led to requests, including from people with symptoms, to be discharged from the hospital.

He emphasized, once again, the importance of establishing a legal framework in this regard.

Raed Arafat: Any country that has an advanced and experienced health system will have to have such a measure, if not, things will get out of control and people with very dangerous diseases can infect others, because they do not want to to be hospitalized or isolated.
