The European Union and the United States are indispensable security partners, said, on Thursday, at a Bucharest Forum, Romanian Interim Foreign Minister, Ramona Mănescu, warning that dissensions in the transatlantic relationship will be speculated by global competitors who do not share the same values as the EU and the US.

RRA Reporter Carmen Gavrilă: Interim Foreign Minister Ramona Mănescu told the Forum organized by Aspen Institute and George Marshall Fund that energy is one of the sources of volatility in Europe, a topic that divides and constitutes a weapon in the hands of Russia to condition Ukraine, thus having an impact on Europe. Mănescu also argued why Romania is supporting a strong transatlantic relationship.

Minister Mănescu: The way Russia has managed energy, especially in the case of Ukraine, represents a decisive incentive to have a real strategy for a true European Union of energy. Any new divisions in the transatlantic relationship will be speculated in the interest of international actors, who are in competition with us and who want to increase their influence globally, including by promoting their values, which do not correspond to ours.

RRA Reporter: On the same subject, Ambassador Tacan Ildem, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, has warned that Russia represents one of the challenges the North Atlantic Alliance is facing and that Moscow has questioned the rules-based international order. NATO official also mentioned the dangers of disinformation, which became very sophisticated with the help of new technologies.
