Kovesi under judiciary control and interdiction to leave Romania

Former Chief of Romanian National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), Laura Codruţa Kovesi has appealed, on Friday, measure of judiciary control ordered against her by prosecutors of Section for Investigating Magistrates (SIIJ).

Judicial control is for 60 days, during which Laura Codruta Kovesi has seven bans imposed. SIIJ announced that, among other things, former DNA Head cannot leave the country without consent of case prosecutor, cannot talk to the press about her case, and can no longer act as a prosecutor at the General Prosecutor's Office.

She is accused of taking bribes, abuse of service and lying testimony in connection with bringing back to Romania of former FNI Director, Nicolae Popa.

Kovesi's file was opened following complaint by former MP Sebastian Ghita, who fled to Serbia after being sued in several corruption cases.

As former DNA Head said when arrived at the Police Section for interrogation, this is an attempt to block her access to the post of European Union’s first fraud prosecutor, for which she won the nomination of the European Parliament and, and she is the target of a harassment and intimidation campaign.

Supreme Court announced that it will judge appeal of Laura Codruţa Kovesi on Wednesday, April 3.
