Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has scheduled a meeting, on Tuesday, in Washington, with his American counterpart, Donald Trump. US-Romania Strategic Partnership will be the central topic of discussions, but as Romanian Head of State recently announced, other issues will also be addressed.

This is the second meeting between the two leaders, after the one in 2017.

RRA Special Envoy to Washington, Oana Bâlă: Meeting of President Klaus Iohannis with his American counterpart, Donald Trump, is scheduled to last an hour and a half. Romanian Head of State will be welcomed at the White House at 9:00 pm, Romania time, he will sign in the Book of Honor and then delegations will be presented in the diplomatic reception room. There will be tête-à-tête talks between the two leaders in the Oval Office, then official talks will begin, with participation of delegations from the two countries. Agenda of the visit to Washington is dominated by US-Romania Strategic bilateral relationship, focusing on security, economy and energy, but other topics of common interest will be addressed.

President Klaus Iohannis intends to discuss Visa Waiver Program for Romanian citizens traveling to the United States. Also, issues related to energy security will be addressed, given that the American side has been worried that Europe will become too dependent on Russia in the energy field.

President of Romania expressed hope that the energy legislation, which dissatisfied foreign investors, will be changed, considering that there is a willingness at government level to repair certain aspects of Ordinance 114 and offshore law which, in his opinion, were not well thought out.

In Washington, Romanian Head of State also wants to talk with President Donald Trump about the number of US military personnel in Romania, saying that Romania has the possibility to host more US military personnel.

Iohannis will reiterate invitation to US President Donald Trump to visit Romania.
