Ludovic Orban has submitted, on Tuesday evening, his mandate as designated Prime Minister, following yesterday’s boycott in the sitting of Parliament’s plenary, when investment of the new Liberal Cabinet was scheduled to be put to the vote, announced President Klaus Iohannis.

As a result, Head of State will have new consultations with the parties, to appoint a new Prime Minister.

They will take place tomorrow, starting at 16.00.

Press statement of President Klaus Iohannis: Ludovic Orban has submitted his mandate as designated Prime Minister; reason is as simple as it is clear – rules of the joint activities of Parliament’s two chambers provides for a period of 15 days within which they have to submit an opinion on the government proposal. These 15 days have passed without a vote. We basically know, as I said yesterday, this is due to the Social Democratic Party (PSD), which boycotted yesterday's meeting, hence a vote could not take place. In this way, we risk getting stuck, and this is the last thing we want in this situation. Therefore, I accepted this mandate submission from Ludovic Orban. As a result, I will convene consultations with the parliamentary parties. They will start tomorrow at 4:00 pm, and will end tomorrow around 8:00 pm, after which I will come up with a public statement on what has been discussed and what my conclusions are.
