RADIO ROMANIA NEWS - France stands with Romania, according to its commitment to never leave its allies - is the message with which the French Minister of Defense, Florence Parly, arrived today in Bucharest for talks with the highest state officials in Romania.

The first meeting was with his Romanian counterpart Vasile Dincu, as reported by the RRA reporter, Catalin Purcaru: "Romania has a special strategic partnership with France and can rely on its support, said the Romanian Minister of Defense, Vasile Dincu." He stressed that all current security challenges can only be overcome through solidarity, unity and cohesion between states that share democratic values. Vasile Dincu specified that the recent developments in the field of security have confirmed the alliance's unity.

Vasile Dincu: “The French Presidency of the Council of the European Union plays an important role in the elaboration of the strategic compass of the European Union. I reiterate our strong commitment to ensuring the security of the Western Balkans and destabilizing the Sahel region, increasing our contribution to EUFOR Althea and making it possible to engage with a contingent of 50 troops in the Task Force Takuba mission."

The French Minister of Defense, Florence Parly, considers that Romania is entitled to consolidate its own security, in the context of the tensions in Ukraine. The French official assured that France is willing to continue contributing to the security of its European partners in NATO missions, especially in Romania.

Florence Parly: “An expert mission from my ministry is arriving in Romania today in order to study the parameters of this possible development. Such a commitment would be in line with our current arrangements. Our air force, as well as our navy, regularly perform exercises with the Romanian navy. We are considering other developments in 2022.”

The French Minister of Defense also met with Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca.

The official's visit takes place in the context in which France and the United States are two of Romania's NATO allies who have expressed their willingness to contribute more to the position of deterrence and defense in Eastern Europe, in the current tense situation, on the border between Russia and Ukraine.
